Dear Recipient,

I am writing to apply to the Community Health Coordinator position. I found this job posting on Indeed which immediately caught my attention. I am interested in this position and your organization because I feel like I have the necessary skills such as problem-solving, communication skills, critical thinking and proficient knowledge on the health care system.

I am currently in my last semester at the University of Bridgeport where I’m obtaining my Bachelor of Science in Health Science and a concentration in Community Health Education. My coursework has well prepared me to go into the community health field by understanding the healthcare system and analyzing programs to see what works best. I also had an internship at the Bridgeport Health Department where I worked in the Health Administration division under the Health Director focusing on policy efforts to improve health.  I also volunteered at the Bridgeport Walk n Talks where we walk and discuss health issues and ways to improve them.

It would be an honor to be able to work for your organization as well as contribute my knowledge and previous experience to this position. I would like to thank you for considering my application and look forward to the opportunity to discuss this position further.

Thank you,

After reading Chapter 7 of Hired! and doing the exercise I realized the job I will be searching for is in a private office as a dental hygienist once I receive my license. I will need to find the office that is the right fit for me. Many factors come into play with this as in location, hours, pay and benefits in the long run. These things are very significant in a job. Some of the skills as a dental hygienist are: being detailed and knowing how to explain what is going on to the patient, having patience, knowing the updated technology. Communication is one of the biggest aspects as a dental hygienist. As a dental hygienist, you communicate with everyone, the front desk, assistants, patients, and the doctors. There are many important things a dental hygienist should have in their knowledge base. First, they have many hands-on clinical hours before graduating from school. This ensures you they know what they are doing and how to handle different situations. Another thing must dental hygienists have now is knowing about local anesthesia, in the past, this wasn’t including during the dental hygiene program. This makes the patient more comfortable and trusting which is extremely important. A dental hygienist is normally pretty well known with periodontal disease, again a lot of clinical experience in school comes in handy with this. A dental hygienist should always be motivated and happy to help their patients throughout their day. They should also want to continue their education to help benefit their patients even more by keeping up with newer research and technology in the dental field. This job is extremely hands up and many patients look up to us to help them stay in a healthy state, they also depend on us to educate them.

Introductions are important because it’s someones first impression of you. It is a great way to capture your whole self in a paragraph that will hopefully grab the attention of an employer or a networking opportunity.

I am currently a student at the University of Bridgeport studying Health Science with a concentration in Community Health Education. I also have a minor in psychology because I found interest in taking a lot of psychology classes when I had to pick electives or needed more classes to fill my semester requirements. Ever since I was young I always knew I wanted to be in the medical field, as I was also in the Health and Medical program in high school. I never really had any interest in any other field and I can’t see myself doing anything else. My passion for caring for people and having empathy started very young so I knew this was for me when I stuck with that idea. This area of community health allows me to explore the healthcare system as a whole and always find new way to improve the quality of health and healthcare for individuals. Although I love this field within health care, I would like to further my education in nursing or radiology. I enjoy the clinical work aspect of healthcare because I feel like I’m actually making a difference by physically helping a patient and making a difference in their health. I would love to work in a hospital, being in a fast-paced environment really keeps me engaged in my work. If I have too much time to relax I’m more likely to become uninterested in what I’m doing. This field is perfect for me because I will be able to apply my drive to help others and feel satisfied if I make a difference in someone’s life.

I am currently an online student at University of Bridgeport to finish my bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene, and I just earned my associate’s degree this past May. I have always had a desire with work in within the science field, even in high school, but I didn’t know which specific field I wanted to major in. I decided to take sometime off after high school to give myself an opportunity to decide what field I could picture myself in. I worked in customer service for three years, but I was not happy and I knew I needed to return to school and pursue a longterm career. A friend inspired me to look into the dental field due to my obsession with my own oral health. I applied to Porter and Chester for dental assisting, and I was hired my internship site. I loved working as a dental assistant. I enjoyed challenging myself to predict what the dentist would want for each situation, and I loved being part of each patient’s journey toward oral health. However, after working as an assistant for three years, I knew I was capable of more, so I applied to dental hygiene school.

The dental hygiene field is perfect for me because it coincides with my passion for helping others and my love for science. All treatment decisions should be based off scientific evidence which means I will always need to continue my pursuit for more scientific knowledge. Research constantly evolves the dental hygiene profession, so I will be a lifelong learner. Furthermore, I will provide care to those in need, by improving my patient’s oral health, I will improve their systemic health. I love working in the dental field because it gives me the opportunity to better people’s lives through my scientific knowledge.
